The One Word 365 I have chosen for 2014 is "esteem."
By definition, esteem means to value, treasure, respect, appreciate. But the synonym that really cinched it for me was consider — a word that has recently come up as something I needed to do more of.
If you have been reading my blog in the last few months, I have been writing a lot about worth and how I view myself.
“No one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it” (Ephesians 5:29)
Yet, I did not choose self-esteem, which would have made the focus entirely on me. I know that ultimately I wish to esteem God and God alone, lest my esteem result in any kind of idolatry.
Choosing "esteem" to focus on this year is both a positive and a scary proposition. I am open and eager to see what God has in store this year.

Christy - you truly blessed me with your encouragement, what a great way to wake up and read your words that inspired me. thank you for stopping by my site. And here at A Heartening Life I can see that you are making a mighty difference in the hearts of your readers. I love how God is inviting women like you and i to cross paths as we share His hope so hearts can live faithful while waiting for His Kingdom.
I am always nervous when I see the word "esteem" because so often, it is linked to "self-esteem." That is a scary term to me, because as a believer I want "God-esteem" meaning, I want to find my worth not in myself, but in being God's child because our "self" has nothing good in it without Christ.
Looking forward to seeing what God teaches you about esteem this year.

Have a Wonderful day!
Christine
ooh, I love that word, and I love that fact that you choose esteem instead of self esteem. Knowing who we are in Christ and having our confidence some from Him is so much better than "having good self-esteem".
My word for this year is Faithful.
Wishing you the best for 2014
Awesome word. Esteeming God and God alone...I guess that's similar to my word, which is God. I do believe He is calling me to Him above all else. Praying you would experience His wonderful love in all its fullness. Thanks for coming by Circles of Faith. Blessings!
