My Five Minute Friday on: Write
The words have always been there, swirling around in my head.
I contemplate them and try to squeeze meaning from them, like a lemon in my hand. But it's no use.
Thoughts gather and fill my mind to capacity until it's hard to keep them all straight.
But then four years ago I released them. Like an uncaged bird they flew onto the page when I started to —
WRITE.
A process of laying things down, letting stories and pain and encouragement flow.
I write.
Because it has become a way to clear the mind chatter. A place to make sense of things and sort out.
I write with courage.
It's a risk, putting yourself out there this way. Unveiling your heart for all to see, to read.
And whether it's posted to the universe or between the safe covers of the journal beside the bed those written words matter. They are birthed from you, but they live on.
Since I've tasted the freedom of writing I make time for it. This cathartic, brave, intentional act that challenges me to write life and not concern myself with who is listening or what they might think.
Intentional living is making time to do things that matter, things that help you grow, things that stretch you. That is what writing is for me. What is "that thing" for you?
This is the fifth post in a series, called 31 days of Intentional Living. You can find all the posts in this series here, updated each day in October. Category: Inspirational & Faith

Wonderful. I understand the way of writing to "make sense of things and sort out". I think sometimes God speaks to us as we're writing what's on our minds and hearts, as if in the sorting and un-stuffing, we make room for what He wants to say and teach. (Stopping by from FMF this morning.)
ReplyDeleteLast night, was our monthly regional writer's meeting. A local newspaper columnist and author was the featured speaker and one of the things he talked about the traits of a good writer. He said to open your eyes to the world around us, to never quit, and to be courageous. It is a risk, putting yourself out there for all to see, but it's necessary. I've been writing about as long as you have, and I applaud your bravery. It's hard but it's so worthwhile. May God bless you in your vocation and help you to encourage others through your craft.
ReplyDeleteWritten words do matter! They matter to me, as the writer. And if I encourage one other person, praise God! I have been stretched and grown through the simple process of my writing and rejoicing in the everyday of my life.
ReplyDeleteChristy! So thankful that you posted a comment, because this is my first glimpse into your 31 days series and I love it. Being intentional is one of the main things I am trying to learn.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite 5 minute Friday post today, my friend!!!
Dear Christy
ReplyDeleteI like the way you allow your writing to become something that stretches you; something intentional to make you grow as a person. When we write we should be true to our hearts and just be ourselves. When we are authentic we will experience great healing and joy!
Much love XX

"Because it has become a way to clear the mind chatter. A place to make sense of things and sort out." Yes! This is what writing does for me and it always brings me closer to Him.
ReplyDeleteYou write with beautiful courage. Thank you for "unveiling your heart for all to see, to read."
Many blessings. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
{Hugs},
Beth
