My Five Minute Friday on: Laundry
The basket sits filled to overflow — dirty socks and undies spilling out onto the bedroom floor like Mount Vesuvius. It taunts me daily until one of us is out of said undies or someone's smelly soccer socks are discovered to be "in there somewhere" and we need them tomorrow.
Laundry is one of those chores that is never done. As soon as a load is washed there are more articles waiting.
I don't mind the laundry as much as the dishes. But dirty, wash, dry, fold, repeat can get old after a while. It's not necessarily hard work to throw a load in. But some days, I just don't feel like it.
So much in life isn't once and done, but for some reason I keep thinking it should be. The cycle of mountain and valley, suffering and rest, with and without is a reality we can rely on, as much as the changing of seasons.
The leaves are turning brilliant reds, yellows, and orange here and I watch them flutter to the ground. Before long the trees will be bare and winter winds will blow in. So I enjoy autumn while it's here because I know it won't last.
I can see my life this way — as a series of seasons. And it helps this recovering control freak let go a little bit more. Because at the end of winter there is spring and summer and fall again.
And just because it's gone today doesn't mean it will stay that way. And maybe spring will usher in something new, something unexpected.
There is so much hope in that!
Perhaps today is laundry day. Or maybe you're overwhelmed by grief. Or you're celebrating new life. Whatever you're dealing with today, may you remember the changing seasons and what the promise of that holds for you.
What season are you in right now?
This is a post in a series called, 31 days of Intentional Living. You can find all the posts in this series here, updated each day in October. Category: Inspirational & Faith

So true! What a great reminder.

THIS: "The cycle of mountain and valley, suffering and rest, with and without is a reality we can rely on, as much as the changing of seasons." What a beautiful truth here found in a pile of laundry. The hard reality has struck me often lately that we live in a broken world and, just like the piles of laundry are never ending, so is the pain and hurt of this world. It's what makes heaven so much sweeter and I'm grateful for the One who is with us through these seasons.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading this! YES--the seasons. There's a time for everything. In answer to your question, I'm in a season of little kiddos, sleep deprivation, and lots of messes.
ReplyDeleteMay we worship and surrender to Him in every season... Bless you friend!
Hi Christy! I am in a season of waiting I think. Waiting for my husband to be employed again, waiting for my next grandchild to be born, waiting to get better at writing...the list is endless.
ReplyDeleteBut like fall is a transitional season, this is too. I will try my best to see each day as a gift, and just do my best. The Lord has it all in his hands!
Happy Friday!

What a wonderful way your analogy flows together. And drawing the conclusion that we have constancy - even in the change.
ReplyDeleteMy season is digging deep and growing after a long time in the desert. I wound up being a nourishing season as much as a dry season, and now I'm listening and putting into practice, all that the Lord has taught me.
I love the connection of seasons. Yes. And am enjoying your series too!
ReplyDeleteWow- I just might be able to see the never-ending laundry as a blessing now:) You just infused it with hope in the most interesting way, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAh, LOVE this, Christy! I need to remember to embrace the monotony and neverendingness of laundry, methinks! :) I adore the changing of the seasons. Definitely feel like I am in an "in between" season right now. I have a tree in my yard that half is green and the other half is red. And that is me right now. Can't quite decide what season I am fully in!
ReplyDeleteLoving your reminders to live with intention!
LOVE this... it is so true! Our God brings us to and through Seasons... and change is coming for us at every turn! I am just now learning to lean in to it... to embrace it and look for the adventure in it all (rather than try to resist it, or run from it!)
ReplyDeleteSo encouraging. A season for everything! Loved reading your post.
