Seeing Provision: 31 Days of Intentional Living

A flat tire was the last thing I needed.

It wasn't part of my plan for the day. But a shiny metal wrench waiting for me on the side of the road had other ideas.

I ran over it on the way to the grocery store. It popped immediately — heard the swooosh of the air leaving the tire. Then the thud, thud, thudding of the rubber flapping against the road.

I was less than a minute from my destination.

It was frustrating and I started freaking out. I contemplated changing it myself, but I hadn't stopped in the most ideal place and other cars and trucks were having to go around me.

So I did the logical next thing and I called my husband at work. As we were discussing my various options I noticed a tow truck drive by me going the other direction. He was towing a car and I saw that he took notice, but he kept on going.

About five minutes later, the first tear started falling down my cheek when the same tow truck drove slowly up behind my car. I hadn't called triple-A yet, nor had I started to work on it myself. His auto repair shop was literally less than a minute away from where I was. He followed me there and for $20 they changed my tire and gave me a used one.

I was back on the road within 15 minutes.

My plan had been re-routed, but maybe 30 minutes later than I planned I arrived at the grocery store to complete my errand.

So many things running through my mind, not the least of them was why did this have to happen, on a new tire no less? What was that "bleeping" piece of metal doing in the middle of the road anyway? And why was it my tire that popped when many others had run over the same metal without issue?

I will never know why, but in that moment, and ones since, I have had a choice — to see the inconvenience and the new expense, but also see how God provided.

I believe that part of intentional living includes taking daily notice of how God provides for us. That through every struggle and every "flat tire" moment He shows up.

When I look back on the "flat tire incident" I see many different ways He took care of me. It could have been worse (two tires could have blown) or I could have been hurt. And I'm incredibly thankful it was just a flat tire.

I feel myself starting to worry about how we will pay for the replacement tire. But taking notice of how He provided when I was stranded on the side of the road encourages me to trust — that He will provide in getting the new tire, as well.

Try being intentional about noticing provision as you do life today. God will amaze you!
